Appliance Repair FAQ
Answers to the most common questions from homeowners in Johnson City and the Tri-Cities area. Can not find your answer? Just call us.
Most appliance repairs in Johnson City TN cost between $100 and $400 depending on the appliance and the problem. A service call and diagnosis typically runs $70 to $130. Simple repairs like replacing a belt, thermostat, or door latch are on the lower end. Larger jobs like compressor or motor replacements can run higher. We always provide a free estimate before any work starts so you know exactly what to expect with no surprises.
Yes. Same day appliance repair is available for most calls received before noon in Johnson City and the surrounding Tri-Cities area. Our trucks carry the most commonly needed parts for each appliance type so many repairs get done in a single same day visit. If your appliance breaks down in the morning, there is a good chance we can have it running again by that afternoon.
The general rule of thumb is the 50 percent rule. If the repair costs more than half the price of a new appliance, replacement usually makes more sense. Most major appliances are built to last 10 to 15 years. If your appliance is under 8 years old and the repair is straightforward, fixing it is almost always the better financial decision. Our technicians will always give you an honest recommendation based on the age and condition of your unit. We will never push a repair that does not make sense for your situation.
We repair all major appliance brands including Whirlpool, Maytag, GE, Samsung, LG, Frigidaire, Kenmore, Amana, KitchenAid, Bosch, Speed Queen, Electrolux, Sub-Zero, Viking, Wolf, Miele, Thermador, and many more. If you have a brand not listed here, give us a call and we can confirm if we service it. We work on virtually all residential appliance brands.
Most appliance repairs take between 45 minutes and 2 hours once the technician arrives. Simple fixes like replacing a dryer belt, door latch, or thermostat can be done in under an hour. More involved jobs like replacing a washing machine motor or refrigerator compressor may take closer to 2 hours. If a part needs to be ordered, we schedule a return visit as soon as the part arrives, typically within 2 to 5 business days.
Yes. All repairs come with a parts and labor warranty. If the same issue comes back within the warranty period, we come back and fix it at no additional charge. We use quality replacement parts to make sure your appliance runs properly for the long term. The specific warranty period varies by repair type and we will tell you exactly what is covered when we give you the estimate.
We accept cash, credit cards, and debit cards. Payment is due at the time of service after the repair is completed and you are satisfied with the work. We do not require any payment upfront before the technician arrives. The only thing you pay for before work starts is approving the estimate, which is provided at no charge.

Yes, someone needs to be home during the repair appointment. Our technician needs access to the appliance and will need to discuss the diagnosis and estimate with you before starting work. We give you a specific time window for the appointment so you do not have to wait around all day. If something comes up and you need to reschedule, just give us a call as early as possible and we will find a new time that works for you.
A few simple things help the repair go smoothly. Make sure there is clear access to the appliance with at least 3 feet of working space around it. Remove any items stored on top of or directly in front of the appliance. For washer and dryer repairs, empty the drum. For dishwasher repairs, remove any dishes. Have the model number ready if you know it, usually found on a sticker inside the door or on the back of the unit. Our technician takes care of everything else from there.
For a broken refrigerator or freezer, keep the door closed as much as possible to maintain the cold temperature. A full fridge stays cold for about 4 hours and a full freezer for about 48 hours with the door closed. For a broken washer, hold off on doing laundry or use a laundromat until the repair is done. For a broken oven, use a microwave, toaster oven, or hotplate in the meantime. Call us right away for refrigerator and freezer issues since food safety is time sensitive.
All of our repairs come with a parts and labor warranty. If the exact same issue returns within the warranty period, call us and we will come back and fix it at no additional charge. We stand behind our work and use quality parts to make sure repairs last. In the rare case that a repair does not hold, we make it right. That is our commitment to every customer we serve in the Tri-Cities area.
A refrigerator that runs but does not keep food cold is usually caused by dirty condenser coils, a malfunctioning evaporator fan motor, a bad thermostat, or a failing compressor. Sometimes it is something simple like the temperature setting getting bumped or food items blocking the internal air vents. Start by checking that nothing is blocking the vents inside the fridge. If the problem continues, call us and we can diagnose the exact cause quickly. Learn more on our refrigerator repair page.
A washing machine that will not spin or drain is one of the most common repair calls we get. The most frequent causes are a worn drive belt, a faulty lid switch or door latch, a clogged drain pump, or a broken motor coupler. Sometimes it is as simple as a small item like a sock getting stuck in the drain pump filter. Our technicians can diagnose the exact issue quickly and most of these repairs can be completed the same day. Learn more on our washing machine repair page.
A dryer that runs but produces no heat is one of the most common repair calls we receive. On electric dryers the most likely cause is a burned out heating element or a blown thermal fuse. On gas dryers it is usually a faulty igniter, flame sensor, or gas valve coils. A clogged dryer vent can also cause the dryer to overheat and trip the thermal fuse repeatedly. We diagnose the exact cause and fix it the same day in most cases. Learn more on our dryer repair page.
Signs your dryer vent needs cleaning include clothes taking more than one cycle to dry, the dryer feeling very hot on the outside during operation, a burning smell when the dryer runs, and visible lint buildup around the outside vent cap. A clogged dryer vent is a leading cause of house fires and also wastes energy. We recommend professional vent cleaning at least once a year for average households, and more often if you do a lot of laundry.
A dishwasher that leaves standing water at the bottom is almost always caused by a clogged drain filter, a blocked drain hose, or a failed drain pump. Start by cleaning the filter at the bottom of the dishwasher, which should be done monthly. If water is still sitting after a full cycle, the drain pump or hose connection is likely the issue. Most drain pump replacements are same day repairs we carry parts for on the truck. Learn more on our dishwasher repair page.
A gas burner that will not light is usually caused by a clogged burner port, a faulty spark igniter, or a bad igniter switch. Food debris and grease can block the small burner holes over time. Start by removing the burner cap and cleaning it thoroughly under running water. If the burner still will not light after cleaning, the igniter or switch likely needs to be replaced. We carry igniter parts for most major gas range brands. Learn more on our oven and stove repair page.
Excessive frost or ice buildup in a freezer is almost always caused by a failed defrost system. Every freezer has an automatic defrost cycle that melts frost buildup periodically. When the defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or defrost timer fails, frost accumulates and eventually blocks airflow which prevents the freezer from maintaining temperature. We diagnose which component of the defrost system has failed and replace it. Learn more on our freezer repair page.
